Brisbane turned on the wind for our 4th Annual Charity Golf Day, and not a single person seemed to mind. Balls curved sideways, caps went flying, and putts that looked perfect off the club face took a hard left somewhere near the hole. If anything, the conditions made the day better. Nothing bonds a fourball quite like watching a well-struck drive come back to say hello.
From the first tee-off at The Brisbane Golf Club to the final presentations, the atmosphere was exactly what we hope for every year: competitive enough to matter, relaxed enough to enjoy, and united by one shared goal — raising funds to help end veteran homelessness in Australia.
Our MC kept the laughs coming
Keeping the day rolling was our MC, Jason Akermanis, who brought the energy, the commentary and a few jokes we’re still deciding how to feel about. Questionable material aside, Aker had the room laughing from start to finish and made the presentations one of the highlights of the day.
The leaderboard
Despite the breeze, some seriously good golf was played.
First place — Enviropacific, who read the wind better than anyone and took out the title. Congratulations, team!
Second place — Duratec, right on their heels and never far from the top of the board.
Third place — Human Quotient Group, rounding out a very tight top three.
And then there’s the honour nobody enters for but everyone enjoys: the Wooden Spoon, which went to one of the GHD teams. To their credit, they collected it with a grin. There’s always next year, and the wind may well be on your side.
Thank you to our Major Sponsors
None of this happens without the organisations who back us year after year.
GHD -has been with us since the very first Charity Golf Day, and their support this year extended well beyond the major sponsorship — four GHD teams took to the course, making them our single biggest presence on the day (wooden spoon included). Thank you for standing with Australia’s veterans from day one.
DT Infrastructure – returned as a Major Sponsor for a third year running, and also fielded a team. Their commitment to the veteran community is genuine, ongoing, and deeply appreciated.
Thank you to our event sponsors
A huge thank you to Icon for the Drinks Cart, never has a roaming beverage service been more warmly welcomed by wind-battered golfers.
And to Axon Property Group, our Registration Sponsor for the first time this year and a hole sponsor as well. As a veteran-owned business, their support means a great deal to us.
Thank you to our Hole Sponsors
Every tee box told a story this year. Our sincere thanks to:
WT Partnership, Symal, Gap Industries, ALS, Shamrock Civil, Human Quotient Group, Duratec, Enviropacific, Xylem, Legion Drilling, Axon Property Group
Thank you to every team who played
A full field of teams turned out, and every registration put funds directly toward housing veterans. Thank you to:
Stantec · Sitzler · GHD (four teams!) · Vaughan Infrastructure · HomeFront · BG&E · Enviropacific · Versatile Group · DT Infrastructure · Stanmore
Thank you also to everyone who bought raffle tickets, took on the putting competition, donated prizes, or simply turned up and got behind the cause.
Why we do it
Around 6,000 veterans are experiencing homelessness in Australia right now — men and women who served this country and now find themselves without a safe place to sleep. Every dollar raised on the course goes toward VHA’s belief that every veteran deserves a safe place to sleep.
That’s what the wind was really blowing toward: more keys, more front doors, more veterans with somewhere stable to rebuild from.
